Shirley R. of Deseronto hosted her 4th annual sale to raise funds for nets and medicine. The plant sale this year raised $1,050 and netted 3 villages! Thank you Shirley. We are overjoyed with your commitment and passion to help save lives from malaria. Shirley met Dr. Nkundeki of Uganda during one of his visits to Canada; she heard firsthand how her efforts have helped the women and children in Uganda. Thank you again, Shirley.

Candice of Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School in Strathroy, together with the Social Justice Team, raised $3,500 and netted 10 villages in Kawempe District, Kampala. The school community supported a dance, hot dog lunch, talent show, kiss a fish!!!!, and other events. Sounds like great fun was had while knowing you were making our world a better place. Great job, Candice and Team. Thank you everyone!

Maya of Mulberry School in Kingston recently turned 10 years old. Instead of birthday gifts, she asked for donations for bed nets to help the kids in Uganda! Maya raised $170 Cdn and 200 Pesos and personally handed her gift to Debra Lefebvre. Way to go Maya. You are a role model for all kids! Your kindness will buy 17 bed nets for families and also treat 17 kids with malaria. Thank you and Happy Birthday, Maya.

Tip of the hat goes to eight year old Declan for not only raising enough money to help protect 16 people from malaria, but also for having helped raise awareness in Ottawa and Kingston on behalf of malaria prevention groups and, in that way, saving countless other lives.

July 11, 2010 – Cornwall, Ontario Members of the Catholic Women’s League bring peace and hope to families in Uganda. Debra Lefebvre, Executive Director, Buy-A-Net, arrived in Cornwall, Ontario to participate in the Catholic Women’s League of Canada 63rd Annual Ontario Provincial Convention at the Nav Canada Training and Conference Centre from July 11 th to 14th. The Convention will bring over 300 delegates from 13 dioceses from across Ontario. In honour of the event, Mayor Bob Kilger has proclaimed July 10th to 16th as “Catholic Women’s League” week in the city. The Most Reverend Archbishop Brendan O’Brien will be in attendance. As “Women of Peace and Hope”, the Catholic Women’s League has provided 4,000 bed nets to the Lugazi Parish, Uganda, and thousands more to the District of Kawempe, Uganda, as well as anti-malaria medication to children.

For the last few weeks of School Students of J.J. O’Neill
sold Ice Cream Sandwiches, raising enough funds to net 2 Villages.
