New Malaria Vaccine Passes Safety Test; Brings Hope
Researchers in the US focus on effectiveness of the malaria vaccine. Malaria prevention and control requires an integrated approach. This involves prompt and accurate diagnosis, use of anti-malaria medications, insecticide sprays and insecticide-treated bednets, improved community-based education delivery and systems, improved health information systems, proper environmental management geared towards vector control, and the development of an effective vaccine. If vaccine proves successful, issues surrounding roll out, accessibility and cost need to be addressed.
