This past school year students from two schools in Nipawin, Saskatchewan worked hard to raise funds for bed nets. Lead by Dr. Chernesky, President of  Nipawin Rotary Club with a promise to match the money raised by the students, Wagner Elementary School raised $598.33 through numerous activities including a garage sale, a chili lunch, and taking “western photographs” using a board with images with cutouts for people’s heads.

L.P. Miller Comprehensive School raised $1,000.00  through a 24 hour famine. Each student had to raise $30 ( which translates to 5 bed nets, protecting 20 people)  to participate in the 24 hour famine.  They were only allowed to drink water or juice. The students camped out for 24 hours at school.

Nipawin Rotary, L.P. Miller Comprehensive School, and Wagner School together raised $3196.76 ! This will protect over 2,000 children and families! The nets raised will go to the District of  Kawempe, a slum in Uganda’s capital of Kampala. Special thanks to Dr. Pat Chernesky for leading this and getting the students involved.
All involved have made a big impact, saving many children in our world community!  Thank you.
